Ladies & Gentlemen
A warm Hello to all of U artistic craftsmen. It's encouraging to belong to a proficient group such as Your esteemed selves. I was introduced to THE CAFE by Fellow competent compatriot Jacques Herbst, an Elite Cafe Member.
My name is abdur-Rasheed Mahomedy and I am an full time Accounts Executive today. In the old days they would call us Bookkeepers ! Married with 4 Children, 2 boys and 2 girls, all married, and with 8 Grandchildren, we reside in Parlock, a suburb in Durban, South Africa.
I make CUSTOM KNIVES, via the stock removal method, part time as a Hobby. Have been doing it for the past 16 Years. I belong to the SOUTH AFRICAN KNIFEMAKERS GUILD (voting Member), www.kgsa.co.za, and we have our annual shows in Johannesburg. I really like to make highly embellished, own designed COLLECTIBLE pieces. My eldest son is also a Knifemaker and he is the only full-time maker in our city. We operate our workshop /studio like other makers, from home. We have, over the Years acquired some good relative equipment and we have our own web site of knives we both sell. The shop and Knives may be seen on the net at www.arm-koknives.co.za
We see engraving as an highly prized embellishment and an extension to our craft.
It is definitely not a separate hobby or craft for us.
I am presently busy acquiring our engraving equipment and hope to start real soon, LORD Willing.
In the interim, we have enough to catch up on at THE CAFE.
We hope and pray that in due course, YOU folks would be proud of our engraving achievements, due to the guidance and tutoring garnered from THE CAFE.
Do bear with our ignorance if it may overstep YOUR proficiency.
We look forward to a most enjoyable journey.
Peace be upon U all.

ARM,
A pleasure to meet you. This is a great place to get advice and we're glad to have you on the forum.

You have some beautiful knives on your site. I'm sure you'll transition well between these two areas of craftsmanship. Good luck.

Yes welcome, Engraving looks wright up your ally for those beautiful knives. Have fun and be prepared for an occasional sleepless night with your mind racing over a design. How is Jacques doing? Havent seen him here for awhile. Doug

U indeed have a "GIANT" of a heart and to us, that is what matters in life.
Thank U, Sir Giant, for the kind words on our Knives.
We are pleased U took the trouble to eyeball our humble efforts and see the connection all this leads to.
We do hope that ultimately engraving would accentuate our work.
Thank U kindly and take care.

Thank U "DD" for the encouraging words.
Hope we can come up with some worthy designs and put in all that "elbow grease" to produce something of excellence.
Jacques should be doing well, LORD WILLING.
He did get in touch and is double-checking my current tool list.
Will pass on Your best to him.
Thanks once again and take Care.

Welcome aboard the Cafe!
MR ALFANO
Thank U kindly.
We have always admired Your exceptional creativity and gifted talents for quite some time now. Never crossed our mind that one day we would be communicating directly with THE MAN himself to learn from and even emulate his brilliance, if not via our own originality.
At this stage do permit us to record our determination to wrack Your brains in every endeavour connected to the art of Engraving. Yeah, yeah, we hear U say........Experience is the best Teacher.
Well, U chose not Your students.
We only pray we are worthy Learners of an excellent Tutor.
LORD BLESS.

Hi
Good to know U are in the Jewellery business.
U have some of the best talents in Your country who have combined KNIFEMAKING with exceptional ability in JEWELLERY Making. Their work is sought after by the top Purveyors and collectors.
There's JOT SINGH KHALSA, VAN BARNETT and DELLANA.
What about KEVIN KING and PAUL JARVIS ???
...and numerous others.
These makers are all in a class of their own.
There's no reason why U can't aspire and reach their excellence !!!
It's all up to YOU, Man.
U just got to be determined enough.
Like an old knifemaker Friend said...It's never too late to chase a dream.
All the best and go for it.
ARM
