Thought I would post this out of interest. This is a saddle made by my farrier apprentice. This is his first attempt at saddle making and at the engraving. Now I no that the engraving has a lot to be desired but one heck of a first project! What do you think?
He is a heck of a good farrier too.

Hi Steve

I would say that you and your apprentice should be very proud of that saddle. May it be the first of many more for him. It's very pleasing to see you training and teaching a younger person the trade.

I have a couple of questions........

What is the metal?

When you engrave it..................is it on flat pieces and then formed? Or formed, then engraved?

Cheers

Hi Andrew,
I am only training to shoe horses, this engraving and saddle making is his own doing! darn good effort for sombody who has never done either. I do know the metal was engraved after it was formed, as to the type of metal i am unsure it is very light weight

Hi Steve.

Even better..........an apprentice with initiative and a bit of get up and go...........fantastic!!!

Even more credit for engraving after it was formed as that is avery tricky surface to do the work on.

Cheers

Hi Steve,
I think he did a heck of a good job on the saddle and the engraving.
The engraving looks very good for this type of American saddle.
Sure would like to see a couple of shots showing the whole thing.
Looks to me like you have a very talented apprentice in more ways than one.
And he is lucky to have such a very talented master.
Wonderful to see in this day and age.

Best regards, John B.

I would say you have a VERY talented apprentice. I don't know anything about saddles but the design looks great to me.

That is one great saddle horn and with the engraving, it is tops. I have a few saddles and have always wanted a mexican saddle with that type of horn and engraving. Please show the full picture. Great job. Loyd
