I see Staking sets for sale on Ebay
It looks like the small bits would make great texture punches
has anyone tried this or do you know if the steel in the bits would be any good for this ?
Thanks
Dave:)

Dave: I seriously doubt there's any advantage to using a watchmaker's staking set for texture punches. Why not just make punches from drill rod or round or square high speed steel or carbide?

Sam,
Thanks for the reply.
I have made a few texture punches I thought that the staking bits might be HSS and since they already had a hole bored in the center of them it might of been an easy fix
I know that there are some threads on making your own and i will review them
again thanks
Dave

Another problem with the staking sets is the punches are hardened to one degree, usually softer, and the anvils are harder......I have seen a lot of broken punches in staking sets used by non-engravers. I doubt that they are up to the job.
