These pictures show the stages of development, the first one showning more plain piddling. The next three showing the cuts in the spiral.

Third plate: Outside cut of the spiral with the beginning of the inside cut.

Fourth plate: Inside cut of the spiral alone.

Next four plates

First cut shows base of the leaf.

Second plate shows cap cut for the volume of the leaf.

Third plate shows tendril cut.

Fourth shows another cap cut, end of leaf.

Fifth plate shows hollow cut inside of leaf.

Sixth plate shows additional leaves with trinm cuts and knicks in the leaves.
