I don't know if this has been talked about before, but has anyone engraved the Ruger New Vaquero? Perhaps I should have said are they engravable?

You didn't say blued or SS. I'm working on a SS one right now. Frame not to bad. Loading gate harder than ..... but engravable. Plan on using carbide and doing a lot of sharpening.

The gun is blued. I know the color case is not hardened (I think), but rather cosmetic.

The New Vaqueros ain't all that bad ... not as bad as I thought they were gonna be. I used a Lindsay Carbalt graver with the square widened to about 105 degrees with a 65 degree face.

I've found that this sharpening configuration works real well and minimizes tool breakage on the harder parts.

I had to go to a 50 degree face on the loading gate otherwise I've been using a 45 degree face on Lindsay Carbalt gravers. Also used a Ray Phillips carbide.
