Hi engraver friends.

I am still a newbee that have engraving as a hobby. Unfortunately I have not time enough "to cut an inch every day", so anyway, heres my attempt.

I have been reading this exellent forum almoust evereyday since I signed up to pick up tips and tricks from you all.

Here is som pictures of my homemade full tang knife with an attempt on engraving the bolster.

Both the knife and bolster has som flaws and errors, althougt I want som critique if possible.

I am certain that critique will help me to be even a better hobby engraver

And again thank you masters and others from the forum:clapping:

I haven't engraved a thing yet but that looks really pleasing to me. Very nice design too imho. I hope to join in the fun soon (tools are on their way).

PS
I'd love to see a closeup of the finished piece!

Here is my attempt to take a closer picture with my cellphone. Not the best, but:)

The bolster is appr. 20 mm * 20mm

Very nice knife and engraving Jorn-Ove.
You asked for critique and the only one I can offer is a couple of "Shiners" in the background.
Easy to cure with a little more background texturing.
Keep going.... I look forward to seeing more of your excellent work.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. John, I`m aware of the "shiners"( a litle bit lazy you know:)). The bolster is made of SS 304 and I was sharpening more than engraving this one(the point kept chipping all the time). Because of that I got a lot of errors and the graver sometimes drove its own way if you understand. Fortunately I found the trick about "dubbing" the point/face. I tried several face angles and finally the graverpoint did not chip so often.

I also aware that something is wrong with the design it self.(the leaves coming out of the smallest scroll) Hope you guys can point me in the correct direction.

Btw, I used lazertoner transfer with backing of shipping labels instead of "bakingpaper". It worked wonderful, and it was not any problem to get all the toner transferred to the metal.

I took Your advice and did a little more "extra" to get it right. Thanks again:)

It is a very nice design.

I am not a master engraver but here is my humble advice,

Were I you, I would start to cut second leaf from inside of the first leaf. It will give nice 3D effect.

Here is a photo to describe better.
