Finally bought some 24kt gold and attempted to inlay gold. The one thing that really amazed me was just how soft the annealed 24kt was...soft as lead solder. Could really get use too adding a little gold to some more items in the future. As I was shaving off excess gold, I saved every last bit ... to remelt and use again. This inlay (while not large 3mm x 3mm) actually only cost a couple of dollars.

Go for it Archie, gold is fun to work with. I save all my scraps, and when there is enough I clean it of trash, dust and with a magnet, steel bits, then melt it into a glob. I pound the glob flat to about .030", cut it into strips (with scissors) about the same width and run it through the draw plate. Has worked for me for many years.

just a totally classy lookin piece of work. chris decamillis once noted that "less is more". here's an example of that notion. was the gold in sheet, or wire ?
