I was inspired by the work of Rick Simmons on tattoo machine frames and thought it would be a nice project. Any tips for improvement would be greatly appreciated.

Rick Simmons is a tough act to follow. The photos are quite small but it looks like you did a nice job on this.

Thank you for the nice comments. The frame was a nice practice piece in that it provided some irregularly shaped surfaces to design within other than a square practice plate.

Really nice, but need to ask one question. I'm new to this and want to know how you managed to get the skull smoothe and with no flat chisel marks?

Thank you for the nice comment. The skull is not carved/ sculpted. It is actually a flat surface that is rendered with a series of fine lines. the darker tones are achieved by cross hatching about 30 degrees to the first and so on.
