Have you seen "The Art of Engraving" by James B. Meek?
It's a pretty basic and comprehensive place to start.
But of cause, nothing beats hands on instruction if travel and $$$ allow.
There are some wonderful instructors out there.

the meeks book is excellent, as are most any of the "old" engraving books. none of the old ones hint at the modern hi-tech stuff. instead, they dwell on drawing, tool sharpening, and the basics of becoming a qualified, working engraver.
