Jim, excellent information. Takes me back to the old days when we had to make our own tools. I put the bends in my tools by heating to cherry red and bending while hot. These of course were carbon steel and had to be retempered, but I had a myriad of these types for getting into bowls, spoons, inside rings etc. In looking at old work 18th century, an engraver could engrave about anything and was a constant source of awe with me. Especially not having any where to get information. Like i said, takes me back!! thanks for the memories...........Excellent information!!

Enduring Quality

Hi,
I'm glad this stuff helps. It's nice to know it will get passed on. It's my
investment in the future of the art of hand engraving. One of my clients was
telling me about the computer engraving machine and what it could do.
He is the owner of a jewellery store. On his right hand is a signet ring
with his family coat of arms that I engraved. There is no better show case
than that. It's the only ring he wears. So computerize engraving is nice, but
in the end, quality is what shows and endures.

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you Ron, Tom, and JBrandvik.
There was a tornado of craziness that went through my shop for while.
New computers, new client, and way to much work. So I'm taking a
breather and letting my head cool down. All these deadlines, oh boy.
Talk to you later,
Jim
