    Default Colt SAA roll stamp

My current job is a Colt SAA the barrel is in rough shape but can be saved but the address lines are nearly rusted away. Are there an places that can restamp the barrel after polishing?
    Thanks, Leland

    Hello,
How I handle that problem is re-cut the lettering first, then polish. If the lettering is not readable, find a good smoke pull from a similar barrel.
On my web site there is Old Colt Auto that was done using this method, the lettering was readable.

    Hope that helps,
    Mark

Cutting deeper before polishing is a good way to go as Metalchipper says.
It can also be done by acid etching. Mask the whole area and scribe the mask material out of the letters.
Build a modeling clay dam around the letters, apply acid and feather the bubbles.
Cronite Company has good acid, mask and instructions.
Use care, keep kids away, do outside and don't breath the acid fumes

Metalchipper and John B. thank you for your help the letters are not visible on this one. The smoke pull will probably my only option on this barrel. One of the collectors I do work for told me he just bought 2 Colt acid etch trays. I will have to check out what that is.
    Thanks again, Leland

Turnbull Restorations also does them in the correct letter style and size for the manufacture date of the pistol.

Turnbull is the only sure bet that I know of. They have pretty much any Colt die you can think of.
