my goal is to have enough borders I'm comfortable cutting before I try designing a sample plate. A few more to find...

Thanks for posting.
I've been working on practicing some simple British gun borders myself so a different style that may account for a different perspective.
My potentially ignorant perception is they're a little wide for borders or is that style typically that size?

Jeremy, you are right, they are a bit wide. I've found that some of my past clients have had difficulty seeing the fine detail in some of my work without the assist of magnification. On a whim I've decided to make sample plates just a touch larger than actual engraving size to aid those (like myself) who's close vision is a bit off.

Shawn, I was wondering about removing that area? I also contemplated marking the metal with a light burnished lines instead of engraved outside lines?
