I see a lot of people recommend carbide for gravers and scribes and I see a lot of graver blanks and burs in catalogs as tungsten-carbide. Is there a difference as far as engraving?

Carbide is a shortened name for tungsten-carbide. Tungsten is the metal matrix that contains suspended grains of carbide. The carbide and tungsten are mixed and then cooked under extreme pressure and heat to form tungsten-carbide.
