I had a little more wood on hand, and decided to make a hammer from the ground up. This is from the same piece of AAAA Flame Maple that my other handle was made from, but on this one I used Watco oil that had a dark tint, to bring out the flame and enrich the overall look of the thing.
The Body of the head is 316 Stainless Steel, and the hammer faces are tool steel of some description that I had here in the shop. The faces are removable, with the ball side being polished to 20,000 grit, and the flat side is right off the surface grinder, so it's dead flat. The head is attached to the handle with a 3/8" set screw behind the flat face. This makes the head SOLID on there, but the whole thing is easily removable.
