Just curious. Did you add the gold as inlay or overlay. In 30 years I can't ever remember inlaying gold into a platinum ring. And 14k rose is a bear to work with. Just wondering what techniques you used?
Thanks for posting it!

Pardon my ignorance!! If that's a stock piece and someone really wanted to buy it, but it needed to be resized; how would you go about doing that?

So this was a fun project. Learned a ton. This all started by inlaying in some stainless steel rings but I wanted to offer it in a metal that would be easier to sell a high $ value for the labor. After some mediocre results with hammer inlay( rose gold is a bugger) I turned to the torch and fused the metal into the deep relief cavities. First I melted in the 22 karat because it has a higher melting temperature than the 14 karat gold, but it melts at a lower temperature than the platinum. I filed and sanded the surface flush between different colored golds. Then I outlined the design, and treated it like normal deep relief engraving with a little stone setting to accent the scroll. I call this technique "Thermal hammer" inlay but I've heard it called fused inlay, torch inlay, or welded inlay. There is always at least 10 different ways to do something in jewelry.

Here are some videos of some of the progress

That would have been my guess. It's a great technique to use with platinum and gold. Possibilities are endless!

Since you skipped over my question, I'll ask it again:

Laser welders are a wonderful tool. You'd have to be a little creative at the sizing area to disguise the repair. I guess the best thing would be to make a new one in the correct size. Since everything is fused together I wouldn't be concerned with the metals delaminating. It would be challenging to size but not impossible.
