That's a nice old hunk of iron! Do the jaws on that vise only offer the polished top that I see without holes to receive work holding aids? Or does that top come off to accept different jaw tops?

No worries. I almost never use mine, as the pins mar the workpiece.
Cut some scrap wood. 1.5" x1.5", 2" x2", 3" x3", 4" x4". 3/4" thick works great. Make a 3/4" x whatever sized tongue and glue together in a "T" shape. Clamp the downward leg of the "T" in the vise.
Anything flat, just use hot melt glue to glue it to your wood blocks. Re-heat the glue over and over with a heat gun, torch, heat lamp, toaster oven for each new workpiece. Hundreds of pieces will pass over each wood block.
Buy 1 pound of thermolock from GRS. Then figure out what sized non threaded rod will fit in your threaded top holes. Use the pins as locating holes for thermolock jaws.
