Hello. Sorry, I'm a newb just getting started. I did a search but didn't find anything on this.

I bought one of those Chinese vises off of ebay just to get started. It came with a rubber base.

Since the base is rubber it turns kinda hard. I'm wondering if it should turn easier and if so, should I use some oil or something to lube it up. :)

Thx,
D

really not suppose to rotate on the rubber tire. unlock the vise itself. should be a bolt in a hole that allows the top half to spin on lower half

Hi there,

Get a leather ring pad,
Instead of that tyre!
These tyres are (in my opinion) useless for engraving balls that do not rotate!

"Lubricate" the leather ring pad with baby talkum powder. Generations of engravers worked that way with the old style engraving ball vises that didn't rotate!
The rotating is adjusted by more ore less/no Talkum powder.
These leather ring pads are made for a lifetime or 2!
