I found this cast iron gem in an antique store today, and now it's hanging on my studio wall.

That is some beautiful ornamental iron! Great find!

Thanks Mike. Yeah, there's far more bad to mediocre scrollwork out there than really good stuff. This one's a gem!

It almost looks like Phil Coggan did this in a previous life!

Check out this fence I saw at the Michael Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia. We engravers are an odd lot running around taking pictures of ornamental scrollwork.

Hi Sam, nobody asked me BUT.............
I like everything about your cast iron scroll work except the misely little wall hanger.
If that thing lets go you could have some serious damage. :(

That's one of those Hercules hooks, John! You could hang an anvil on those suckers!

Just what is the size of that Sam? I also wonder what the patent was for, Interesting for sure.

It's 19"x6" Sam. I suppose it could be found looking at all patents issued that date. I'm guessing it went on the bottom of a stove or something.

I found the manufacturer W.M. Crane Co. NY and they were manufacturers of stoves.
