We engrave alot of rings at Greenlake Jewelry Works. Here's what I like to use:

Best bang for you $. Old style grs inside ring holder: I added raised cleats to keep collet from spinning. Long linear cleats work better. Good for side face and outer surface work. I like the newer collet but old frame is more versitile.

Ringenie side helper is best for side face work. Nice low profile and the aluminium collets are solid and hold delicate designs better without overtightening.

Synset's orbital fixture is nice for patterns that cover both side and outer face.

Ringenie is pricey but for fast layout for eternity bands or repeating patterns it's great. Best for high production situations. Great for any hammering techniques... rock solid especially with metal collets

For inside ring engraving/setting. My 1st Choice is this one from engraver.comhttp:/
I use thermo lock to protect polished surface while holding.

Also real nice for inside from stanislawcollection.com

I'll use just the collets and reverse the leather pads from the Grs accessory kit
