Here is the drawing sent the client for approval and it was. The scrolls and ornaments will be sculpted and the scenes will be naval battle scenes from the Revolutionary war/war of 1812 period. I suspect this will take more than a couple of weekends.

Lee A number of years ago i did a saddle ring carbine like this one Now what i did with the saddle ring staple rather than the usual deforming it on the inside of the frame thus riviting it so to speak to the frame..i made it removable by drilling two small holes in the studs and then held them in place with a small spring clip looks the same on the outside but now I have a removable ring that won't mess up the engraving just pull the hidden clip and remove the stud i basically display the gun with just the staple in place without the ring which is easily put back on if needed

Marty, you are a clever lad. I may well try that.

Here we go with the engraving. After a light cut I am now deepening and removing some material to begin the rough sculpting.

Moving along. I'm kind of a simple fellow. This is done with a $5 optivsor from harbor freight, one punch, two flats, one beading punch, and a 110 v shaped graver.

Now to decide how to carry the scroll over onto the stock for some carving. Should be fun.

I'm certainly NOT one to critique your work, but I see some gaps in the beading. Planning on doing more with them?
