A few progress pictures of a project that I am working on.
I am fabricating a sterling buckle for the Fusion show and sale that Nevada Watt is head of.
The buckle set and ear piece will go on a headstall.
First I made a forming die for a sliding ear piece...then cut out the parts for the buckle ..keeper and tip.
Next I soldered a half round edge on the different objects.
Once I had an idea of the area that I would overlay the Scrolls on i drew up a pattern... transferred the pattern and engraved the outline.
Next I will saw that out solder that in place...polish it the engrave it.

A picture of the forming dies.
The dies are made from 1/4 inch steel plate
I have enough clearance to form 16 gauge material if I choose to use something that heavy.
For this project I used 18 gauge to form the tip and ear piece... overlay will be 20 gauge.

This is a thread I will be keeping up with and referring to for years to come... I have great interest in learning how to make buckles and doing basic silversmithing once I get some engraving experience under my belt. My leather skills are fairly decent (but a bit rusty) and one of my goals is to tie all of it together... Thanks for posting this Shawn!!

Using a jewelry saw I cut out the scroll pattern...now it's ready to be soldered to the buckle.:tiphat:

Scrolls soldered on...buckle is domed and staple is soldered...ready to polish then engrave

Is this the one Conley Walker is doing the leather for? The last time I talked to him he said he had a buckle set coming in you had made?
