Here is a puzzle that I'm hoping the vast knowledge base of the Cafe can help unlock.
A jeweler friend of mine that makes Louisiana themed silver pieces is trying to make a disappearing Louisiana coastline pendant.
Her idea is to create a hologram effect in metal. Viewed head on one would see an outline of the LA coastline. when tilted, the coastline would disappear.
This could be achieved with bulino of course but not mass produced.
Does anyone know of a metal arts technique that could achieve this affordably for runs of multiple pieces?
I'll pass on any ideas y'all come up with.

Cut a wide series of peaks. Engrave the one image on the face of one peak. The other on the other.

To get some sort of hologram effect you can use this machine or ones like it:http://www.redt-magic-engraver.com/

I have seen photo engravings done with this machine. The picture was only visible head on at an angle it would be nearly invisible.
It also give some strange/interesting oily color effect at least on gold.

The machine is basicly making small dots next to each other.

I find these "engravings" very ugly but they might just be what your friend is looking for.

Maybe the company can make you a sample.
