Hello,

I see that GRS has bunch of C-max flat gravers with different widths available. What I cannot understand from the photos is how does the shank look like? From photos it looks like it is round - http://www.grstools.com/gravers-burs-and-more/c-max/c-max-parallel-flat.html. The glensteel parallel flat looks to be the same way - http://www.grstools.com/gravers-burs-and-more/glensteel/glensteel-parallel-flat.html

If that is the case, then how would one sharpen it and keep correct angles without a way of indexing it correctly into the sharpener? Or is there a flat area on the round shank for indexing?

Viljo: If you're using a GRS Dual Angle fixture, they make a nice QC adapter for sharpening round shank gravers: http://www.grstools.com/tool-sharpening/sharpening-fixtures/003-706.html

Once you get the graver setup square with the fixture, you can resharpen accurately.

vilts: the graver fits into a little sleve. the sleve has a slot. the slot in the sleve indexes with the protrusion on the main holder. the gadjet always indexes correctly. there's no fiddling around to get it right.

Ok, I understand how the QC adapter works.

But, monk, what sleeve and main are you talking about? Something diy or from grs (same as Sam referred to)?

ive set the flat loose into the QC holder while in the sharpening fixture..... then lay the belly of the graver on the ceramic lap so it is flush. then tighten the set screws..... once it is set, true up the belly with 1200, and polish. ill then grind the bulk material on top out of the way, and set the face and heel as desired.

I'm guessing this is what you were asking?
