interesting idea, Otto. what does it do to the weight? any chance of a steel model (yours appears to be aluminum)?

everybody wants to reinvent the wheel. it looks as though you have actually done it. does it make much difference if you use the top jaws and later remove them ? i guess you would just have to adjust the focus abit.

I wouldn't bother filing for a patent, as they have to be written properly and the fees are too high. The engraving community, I would think, is going to buy from its own, so I'd keep making them for those who want to purchase one. I have a couple things in mind, but until I reestablish my shop, I can do little. I like your idea, and I'm going to struggle to put some cash aside.

Victor is 5" wide. With a dirty cranky shop ruler. Looked more like 4&31/32nds. And the claw that holds the cntre of the threads is 5/16ths.
The other vise is in a different town. But grs standard.
