Newbie here, with lots to learn. I've been experimenting with a cheap Northern Tools electric engraver for a few months now. I came across a Gravermate set up at an estate sale and jumped on it. Looks new, no gravers though. Can someone orient me on what gravers to start out with. Round or square? Do I need to buy a chuck, or is what I have okay? Thank you in advance. Here is come photos of the hand piece.

sorry about your luck. as for gravers-- i'd suggest, if it's in yer budget, a couple flats, a couple rounds, maybe an onglette. if made of hss, they will handle anything a newbie would normally practice on. each style-- get a size or two that's larger than the smallest. also also , a size below the largest. if you get serious about the pursuit, one day you'll likely have a truckload of them. be advised-- mild steel or cold rolled steel is very easy to cut. far easier than you might guess. good luck.
