zahar:not real certain, but that clamp looks kind of weak to me. esp if your bench is not good and strong

I think I know what you want to accomplish. Monk is right, in that the clamp appears to be the weak link in the chain, if your bench isn't strong enough. What would be better is to make your own vertical, rear post, long enough to reach the floor and machine a large hub to which the post is inserted and which also is to be screwed to the bottom of a sturdy, large wooden box which you can fill with sandbags for weight and which can be removed, if necessary. The rear post never touches the bench, so if you bump or move the bench, the scope stays. Also, fasten three small legs to the bottom of the box first, two in front and one in back, so there is no wobble. That would be a substantial set up, and quite stable, in my opinion.
