Doc Mark: years ago I was in Japan and slept on a very strange pillow which I later discovered was filled with buckwheat hulls. It was pretty darned comfortable once I got used to it. Sounds like one of these could also make a good lumbar support and I see them on Amazon. You can also buy the hulls and make your own custom size and shape.
