Hello,

I thought I will post pictures of this project because it might be of interest. This floor plate is a deep relief, copper and silver inlay, green gold overlay and yellow gold over overlay (because it is above the green gold). Since I could not post real large picture on the forum I upload some here:
http://4uri.com/pictures/ as I find more useful to be able to look at something larger. I also made some videos of the process and I am currently editing the last one. All three video are very long I will post the link to the last one as soon as it is done. I hope that the different techniques I use for this project will be of some interest and of some use.

Thierry, the large format picture took a good while to load on my very slow dial-up system but boy was it worth it!! That leopard seems to be paying as much attention to the photographer as you did to the detail. Most excellent.

Here is a simple light diffuser that I find works really well with very curved floor plates. Lowering it down close to the floor plate picks up the detail all around the curve. It is made from 2 clothes hangers, 2 pieces of wood dowel and some freezer wrap...very cheap to make.

Thank you for the tip, I need to setup a better picture space, as you may notice I did post a different picture, I hope it is more informative.

Thanks for the new photo...I really like that! It looks like you could hold a white card or paper below the floor plate just out of the picture to bounce some more light onto the lower half of the plate and bring that part out better.

I don't wish to hi-jack your thread but here is a photo of a much more curved cartridge trap lid taken with the above setup. The lid was on the stock and the stock set in my vise shown in the above setup. The lid has the same curvature as a 7/8" diameter barrel. Much more than a floorplate.

Leopard project part 3

Hello again, I wanted to mention that I did finally edit the last part of the video. That last part is about shading, it is very long (4 hours), sorry about that. I did find surprisingly difficult to edit the original third part which was over nine hours.

Enjoy

Yes, Terry's videos make me so glad I have unlimited data on my phone. I have watched them all and they are worth every minute.
