I was in a class last year with Chris Hall, who specializes in Japanese carpentry, and this is a link (? - hopefully this worked) to his blog where he describes in detail and pictures his progress in the nunome-zogan class. If you go to this blog, you will also see his description of the class, Intro to Japanese metalwork, as well as his carpentry work. Be careful, you can really go down the rabbit hole on his site. It's fascinating.
