I was handed som old deer antlers and asked to make something for a friend father. Who is a retired naval officer. I had free range to make whatever I wanted. I knew his father use to build miniature ships as a hobby when he was able. So I thought a miniature whales tooth with scrimshaw made from the antler would be fitting. I decided to carve a weathered looking dingy for the stand base. I made up a story for the dingy ha-ha. It's the only thing that survived the squid attack and was found many years later adrift the open sea. Hope y'all like it!

Thanks guys. I really had fun with this project. I freehanded the pattern as I went along. I know one thing though. Scrimming waves isn't easy, at least not easy to make look realistic.

I absolutely love it!!!!!!! Around 40 years ago a guy gave me two Sperm Whale teeth to scrim. I did one and then felt guilty because the whaling controversy was just coming out. So I never did the other tooth. Your use of antler to create a miniature whale tooth is brilliant! I just may have to "borrow" that idea.

Thank you Doc. Borrow away. Ha-ha. And Monk that is crazy that you were really attacked by a giant squid. Sounds like an awesome story.
