This should be in the wanted section in the buy and sell.

But if your looking for recommendations there is very good info found in the tips section that covers many scopes

Medical, surgical and the electronics industry all use scopes similar to or exactly the same as what we use. All of these professions and industries have equipment sites and auctions that you can connect to via forums like this one. Prices are better.

Anything sold for "jewelers" or "engravers" use is usually accompanied by a higher price tag. Especially anything brand new!

The most important thing you can do ahead of time is research. Start with your price range in mind. Then the brands, models and accessories that will fit that parameter... and give you the magnification and working distance that you think you will need.

Not having been born with a trust fund, most things I buy are quality second hand.

The same rules apply to our equipment as those for cars and furniture.

It's best to let someone else take the "hit" for the brand new retail price if you are trying to save money and expand your shop within a budget.

Use your idle time to research equipment purchases a month or two ahead of the time when you will have money available. (That's why most of us keep the tool porn catalogs in the bathroom)

Sometimes, you DO have to wait for the ideal item to show on the market - and sometimes you are in situation where you really do need it now - and you pay the "penalty"...

Luckily most of what we use tends to keep it's value when you buy second hand. Microscopes are one of them. A quality used scope should resell for 90% to 100% of what you paid for it. (if you shopped carefully and didn't overpay)

Can't usually say that for furniture and cars...

or-- take a couple of weeks and start looking on eBay. there are real bargains there. there's also a lot of ripoffs. taking time to compare what's available can serve you well. the important features of a scope, aside from quality
1 get a scope that "zooms". you don't want fixed focus models/
2 a.5 objective lens will cut the power in half. it will also double the working distance for hand clearance. the power, even tho cut in half, is more than adequate for almost any work you would want to do
3. make sure the site allows for returns.
