Question: Money clip fabrication

Hello, I am going to try and fabricate a money clip with a hinge. What gauge silver is best? Any preferences on the hinge tubing size? Overall length and width. Thank you for your suggestions.

Nothing thinner than 18 gauge or it'll bend too easily. 1/8" maybe for the hinge?

a fellow member, "crazy horse" has posted quite a few $ clips. i don't recall if any of his were hinged. i do recall he was quite good at doing them.

None of my clips are hinged. I simply bend them on a bending jig I made years ago when I worked as a machinist. I make my clips using 16 gauge (.050) German silver and Sterling silver. Bending work hardens the material thus giving it the spring needed.

I use 16 ga. and a 7ga tubing with a 20 ga. wall thickness ,this leaves a 12ga. hinge pin. Pretty stout ...
