I have found the ideal motor for a power hone,I am using a motor and foot control from a sewing machine, it has plenty of tourq and it was very cheep, got a sewing machine from a thrift store for $10.

We have one here that runs on a sewing machine motor as well... in fact it is probably the oldest one in the shop?
At least 30 years old... variable speed, runs fast enough to quickly rough out on 180 discs.
Brushes can be changed. Just did it last year.

I have two old sewing machines, a Singer, $25 at a yard sale and a White, free from a friend. Neither has a motor. They each have a foot treadle and a leather belt drive. Perhaps I should modernize.

There is something to be said for the foot treadle, you might be the only one sharpening during a power outage.

During a power outage you need to add a bellows or a fairly large balloon to the collection... and you can run a Lindsay too.

Nope, haven't tried the bellows. Have tried the balloon. Works. Not long. Usually use CO2 during outages.

You would also need candles with mirrors to light the work under your microscope!

And they had those glass globes full of liquid (water or oil?) to focus the candlelight where you needed it...

Love the foot pedal switch idea, I use one on my powerhone and it is much more handier.
