Senate Bill Would Protect Legal Ivory Owners and African Elephants
Ends USFWS Unilateral Ivory Ban and Focuses on African Elephant Poachers

Senators Daines (R-MT) and Alexander (R-TN) introduced S 1769, the African Elephant Conservation and Legal Ivory Possession Act of 2015. Companion legislation to HR 697 in the House of Representatives, this bill would end the US Fish and Wildlife Service’s unilateral moratorium on the importation, exportation and sale of lawfully possessed ivory. It also strengthens measures to stop elephant poaching in Africa and punishes countries that smuggle illicit ivory.

Once a year in Mitchel South Dakota there is an exotic animal auction. When I went it cost $25 to get in which was refunded with a purchase. At this auction you can buy tigers, young and mature, Elephants, young and mature with tusks some of which are capped some are not. Most are Asian elephants. There were leopards and jaguar as well as tigers. Mountain Lions went cheap as did the black bear cubs. Most of the "Dangerous Game" was going to canned hunt ranches. Their was even a Rhino that was a no sale.
There is a circus that claims 300 elephants in there performing herd here in the US of A. If the sale of elephants young and old as well as the ownership of these animalsis legal how can the government step in when one dies by what ever method. At the current price of pre-bane tusks through Boone Trading it would just about break even to feed one out for slaughter. Canned hunts certainly do. Tigers are protected but you can buy them and do what you choose with them Just not import any part of them. Same with many other endangered of protected animals. Just a thought on government interference. Fred
