Any thoughts on if this works or not, also I'm am stuck on the barrel. How would I continue the flow? I have a few ideas but can not come up with anything I am satisfied with... would like to thank Beathard for the template too.

My first impression would be to boomerang back to the muzzle to achieve your goal.
Come off of that top scroll and take off.
On that mid rib I would throw in a contrasting pattern, just to put a little variety in it.

maybe just start from the scroll nearest to the rear of the bbl.

Nice job and it took a few seconds to realize that was a template I drew up a few years ago and donated to Gerry's project.
Here's proof that his idea was well founded.
Now if only I could commit to using it myself. Alas, the derringer I used to draw it is still sitting in the safe uncut.
You have a good sketch going here. Follow off that scroll by the hinge and you are golden.
