Try a beading punch in place of a single point. A single point can sometimes get stuck in it's little mark in the background and soon it becomes a crater. The beading punch is much easier to keep moving and will do a better job of flattening the bottom of the background. Try a variety of sizes. I am using a very small punch.

You can also try a small punch with a flat face or ever so slightly rounded like what you would use for sculpting. Let it dance on a diamond sharpening wheel to frost the face. Seems like the coarser the better.

Good tip Lee, I haven't tried it yet, but I have been thinking of using 5/32 shank diamond burrs for the same purpose, and you have a choice of shapes grit and sizes to try, I have to try that one, thanks for the idea,

Richard.
