First is a Ruger Super Blackhawk. I did most of this engraving about a year ago when I lived in Maryland. My client sent it back to me to have some additional coverage added. I finished and delivered the gun originally the day the movers were loading our stuff in the semi to move across country. So needless to say I wasn't able to photograph it. Since I had it again, I was able to get some shots of it.

If you look at the sherrif on the top of the frame carefully, the badge has 7 points just like the badge for Baltimore county and on the side of the frame.

The second gun is a Colt 1911. I did this for a regular customer after he saw the one I did for his friend. I changed things to keep it different. This one the scroll is in relief and I did the flag on this one a bit different than I had previously. The star field is actually a "micro relief". The prior one I did was more of a banknote style.

Your design layout fills the targeted area nicely without being creepy. Continuity, flow, open spaces, and shading present a very appealing effect. My opinion is only mine, but the overall appearance is extremely attractive w/o requiring minute scrutiny or application of formulae.

I've yet to meet a Colt that was really difficult. The Blackhawk is another story. They have inconsistent hardness from part to part, much like the Ruger Vaqueros. In this case the frame, barrel, cylinder and hammer were no problem. The backstrap was noticablity harder and caused a few issues but it's doable. I wouldn't recommend any Ruger for a newb though.
