very nice!!!! i will be trying this out on some jewelry very soon!! i want to make sure i understand, it looks like you engraved all the surface away like you do when you engrave your lumenesque scroll engraving but just in running leaf border?

I came up with this design by adding different cuts to a common rope border. So the twisted rope is the basis for it. After cutting the rope twists I used a 105 for the rest of the cuts.
When I get a chance I'll do a step-by-step.

Leonardo: Not sure of the actual depth, but when cutting the rope I take out quite a large chip of metal with the flat graver.
