Sam;

I have been meaning to ask you this question for a year or so and have forgotten to do so until watching the video again tonight.

In the section on Roman lettering you say that you use a relative short heel on the graver of about 1/4mm (.0098"). I usually use a heel length of about .0055 to .006". I am going to try a heel length of about .010" as you indicate, however I want to verify this heel length with you first. Please comment.

Kindest Regards;
Steve

Steve: Don't get too hung up on exact dimensions. Most of my gravers have a heel length of 1/4mm give or take a little. Use what works for you. In Roman, with a short heel I can put the flat graver inside the horizontal hairline cut and then cut the wide verticals without the heel leaving a drag mark behind. Ken Hunt uses a looooooong heel scorper and does a beautiful job with it, but probably can't start his cut in the same place I do. Try different lengths until you find the sweet spot.
