Ladders are good, never see 'em on a plant - but you do see 'em mixed into engraved foliage occasionally.

Climbing outta the box is usually a good thing. Test the "waters"...

Maybe Phil Coggan or one of the other European gun engravers can explain where they came from, what they signify?


I have 4 kinds of acanthus plants on my place... not one resembles any acanthus "style" engraving I have ever seen?

(other than one on a printed plate of a taxonomy description)

Love the design, Shawn! Really nice layout with overlapping of the borders and the interesting ribbon device. I really like the beaded background, too. more interesting texture than solid black.

I did some similar stock carving and engraving on a long rifle years ago with scroll and ladder-like straight lines intertwined with the scrolls. I called the style "vegi-linear". Gotta admit I haven't done any since. Yours really looks great!
