Hello everyone,
To introduce myself I am a high school student from NC, and I have a passion for art. I enjoy the medium of graphite immensely! After several years of art classes (which I am continuing) I decided that while I love working in graphite, I would like to be able to represent my work in a more permanent and durable way. From there I began experimenting with some copper pipe, a dremel, and an electric engraver made by dremel also. From the pipe I would cut and hammer out sections of the pipe, then drill a key ring hole in it and polish the hole piece out. I also experimented with flame scaling and patinas. Then I began engraving images onto the plates. After enjoying this for several months I decided that the lack of precision of the dremel was limiting what images and designs I could engrave. Luckily this Christmas I was gifted a texturing/ engraving kit sold by rio grande containing six graver handles and 6 gravers. Much to my surprise after opening the box the gravers were not installed into the handles......and this is how I found this forum.
I have attempted to use my apparently lacking google-fu to learn how to correctly install the gravers, but I have not found any reliable sources on this. It would be of much help if someone could explain how I should go about installing the gravers? The tools list for beginners was an awesome resource by the way. For a ball vice does this look http://http://www.amazon.com/ENGRAVING-BLOCK-Setting-Jewelry-Rubber/dp/B00BCNVGRA/ref=pd_sim_sbs_ac_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=1JWJ0GWC270F9FY6244Zlike a good one or should I try to work on a DIY one? I simply don't have the money for a $300 plus vice yet. Also what is a suitable weight chasing hammer? Apologies in advance for all these questions, but many thanks to those who respond!
Thank you for your time,
Grathlong
