I finished side 1 of this knife about a week ago - tried sculpting instead of shading. The splotchy look in the photo is mostly from reflections. It was not easy (I am finding it hard to start side 2) but the effect is pretty cool. . I started with about a 1-1.2 mm tool at a slow speed with high pressure, then went over it with lower pressure and higher speed, using a smaller tool at times. I was surprised at how much the stainless steel could be pushed around.

Try dulling the metal to get a better shot (no reflections). You can dull it by rubbing on a bit of transfer wax or daubing it with modeling clay.
