I created this as a give away to one of the ladies who will be attending the 50th year reunion of the 7366 Combat Support Group stationed at Chaumont Air Base near Choumont, France. The last airman departed in March of 1967 after France left NATO. At the height of the cold war, the people of Chaumont caused a bronze 9' statue to be cast from the original models by Bartoldi who had a workshop near-by and was placed in front of the base headquarters on July 4, 1954. The 48th fighter/bomber wing, that served here from 1952 till 1960, was given the official name, Statue de la Liberté wing, the only Air Force unit to be thus honored with a name and number. The 48th flew f84's, f86's and finally f100's. The base today is know as the Quartier General d'Aboville and houses the 61st French Artillery.
