Recent Sig 1911

Here's a bit of some recent work. A Sig 1911. Customer wanted a borderless but bold and relieved design. And on a budget. Used a few English scroll tricks to come up with this and darned if it didn't look like a beginners imitation of Marty's work. (no comparison obviously and not intentional!) I may have to play with this style for a while. Also a first attempt a sculpting on a plain 22k band I've worn for years.
That's it. Back to the bench! And as always I apologize for picture quality. And I just noticed there's a missing leaf on the left side of the slide. Criticism welcome.

Thanks JJ. It's amazing how good a simple, clean design can look. For a customer on a budget, this goes a long way towards owning a nicely engraved gun.
Over the last year my work has been getting more involved and intricate and therefore more time consuming. It was nice to take a step back and figure out how offer simpler, faster and less expensive work while still maintaining the quality of workmanship.

Looks great!

That English scroll trick of using a single cut (or just a couple) to define the leaves and remove the background is really great for smaller spaces, isn't it? And it lets you have that great looking relieved background in a lot less time.
