Unusual Vise

In anticipation of payment for a big job, I'm tool shopping as usual. I ran across something I've never seen. Listed as a Jewelers/Watchmakers vise. Looks like an old upright engravers vise but with a strange leather top? Curious. Anyone know what the heck this is?

It reminds me of a case opener for pocket watches. I took a picture of mine but couldn't figure how to upload it but it is made from wood and has cups on both ends. One end opens 12 size and other opens 16 size screw bezels on pocket watches.
