Hi there,

I'm new to the forum and relatively new to hand engraving - just looking for some advice.

I'm trying to set up my jewellery bench at home for some engraving and setting. I'm looking at possible solutions for holding my block. Right now it's too high, sitting inside my bench drawer. Unfortunately I can't bolt anything to the floor, nor can bolt a shelf to the underside of my bench. I would like the support stand to be removable/mobile...so when working at the bench pin, I'm not leaning over and straddling my engravers ball.

Just curious to see if anyone has tried using one of these industrial manual turntables? If so, how smooth is the rotation? And, is 18" too wide a circumference to be usable?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have. Kindly,

Alastair

what may work for others may not suit you. table height, top diameter, as well as other physical aspects of the unit. i first made my own from an old jackstand to which i fitted 3 rubber castors to allow it to be rolled around. i also welded 3 stabilizers ( just long bolts) which slightly lifted the castors off the floor, thus making it rock-steady. this contraption eventually evolved into an integrated, roll around vise stand and scope cart. if you want further info/ fotos of this gadget-- email me at jayismonk450@gmail.com. one rule you must follow-- you'll spend a lot of hours at this work. you should be comfortable whilst doing the work. if you're all scrunched over, you'll likely develop back aches, neck pain, and fatigue. you may also call me at 724-678-7855 till 1 am est
