Everyone,
Question of the day, I have a pencil sketch completed & want to transfer it to the steel, will a pencil sketch work with damar varnish? I have used laser printer transfer and it worked quite good( with the varnish). I would use my mutton tallow & beeswax but the piece is 2x3" so I'm afraid my hand will rub some of the design off inadvertently.:(
I like the varnish cuz once the design is down, its down for keeps.
Any suggestions?
Kent

Hi Kent.
I go over the back of the design with a soft lead pencil.
Then I place the design over the damar area and trace with a 6H or 9H pencil.
Another way is with a sheet of graphite paper under the design.
Still another way is to scribe the design into the reverse side if a piece of mylar.
Rub a little wax into the scribe line and clean off the rest of the mylar.
Rub black powder or pencil point dust into it and burnish on the plain side into the damar area.
This gives you a very nice fine line to follow when cutting.
Just my thoughts, hope it helps.
