During my drawing classes with Sam, he demonstrated a transfer method I'd like to share ( with Sam’s permission! ).
Transfer with acetate film, wax and carbon.
1. Preparea design for real size. Beware of the mirror image imprint later on.
Place the design under a clear acetate sheet.
Trace the design into the acetate sheet with a sharp scribe. For small designs thisis best done with the help of a microscope and a flat drawing top mounted inthe vice.
Remove the burs along the lines in the acetate sheet with your finger nail.
2. Sharpena HB pencil lead with sandpaper and catch the carbon.
Rub the carbon over the inscribed design in the acetate sheet and make surethat all lines are full.
Remove the excess carbon from the acetate sheet without removing the carbonfrom the carved lines.
3. Cleanthe engraving canvas and rub it in with a thin layer of transfer wax.
Turn the inscribed acetate sheet and arrange it on the canvas.
Hold the acetate sheet firmly in place and burnish the carbon from the scribedlines onto the transfer wax.
Remove the acetate sheet and clean it for future use.
4. Carefullytrace the lines with a scribe or engraver into the canvas.
I has not seen it before, it works nicely.
