Hello,
Found these two etched plates at the flee market. I made a smoke print of them.
Have a good day.
Francis.

Frances, are you sure these are etchings? They look awful good for etching. Of course with modern tech, etching is getting better and better, but they have some characteristics that look more like hand work. The thing that throws me, is that they look like old-world german styles that wouldn't correspond with modern etching techniques..............Ron S

Hello Ron,
I bought your book last year, I love it, your engraving is superb.
The two plates are not hand engraved, these plates are made for printing in a magazine or a catalogue, I don’t know the technique, maybe "photoengraving". The ornament is made with dots as you can see on the close up picture.
Well, have a good day.
Best regards.
Francis.

Francis,

Aren't flea markets fun? After seeing the closeup with the dots it is photoengraving..in the printing trade..we call this a half-tone. These plates were made with an acid technique..were they mounted on wooden blocks?
These plates were used in the Letter press. Thanks for posting them..brought back memories. Keep up the good work.

Yours truly,
