I just walked out and made a few tiny test cuts near the ferrel of one of the chisels with a lindsay corbalt graver. It cut... carbide is still harder than steel. I would just anticipate a fair ammount of sharpening... but you have more experience with engravijg than I. I am just learning...
Kinda doubt the story d2 came around earliest around 1920.. So its likely not part of a covered wagon or its not D2 but thats not your problem.
Have never cut D2 but i have some mortise chisels for woodworking in it. Best of luck its very tough and abrasion resistant...
I have an optivisor and an inexpensive dental loupe from the marquetry and inlay woodworking.
and yes its certainly been my experience its usually the case that quality pays in the long run. Why I am stating with a GRS vise and a Lindsay hand piece. OTOH there are occasions where you can get...
I am curious if anyone has had success with an "inexpensive" microscope.
In the scope and binocular world there are makers like vortex that are not as good as say leupold or leica but totally functional enough to get going.
There are multiple microscopes in the $300-600 range on Amazon with...
I am narrowing in on choosing a graver and I am leaning towards a Lindsay classic with foot control. One question: I have large hands (XXL glove sizing) am I likely to have issues with the size of the classic and if so any suggestions?
I will leave other people to the recommendations but I just want to point out that "noise canceling" does not equal hearing protection.
Hearing protection will have an NRR(noise reduction rating) number on the package or website from a certified agency. If they dont again it's not hearing...
I am new to engraving but have quite a bit of experience with metals and oxidation.
How are you transferring the engraving?
Most spray lubricants include a solvent in the mix, and in many cases oils themselves have some solvent tendency.
If it wont interfere with your layout and transfer I...
I will have to pass on buying a digital immage of a roll top desk....
Even though it's got some nice patarae bits on the legs.
Yeah a metal lathe is on the list actually too.... but engraver first. My wood lathe has been pressed into service occasionally but not ideal.
Thanks for...
Interesting do you have a link or a photo of what you mean? Since I will make the bench I can make whatever I like.
air or electric? How do you set that up? what kind of flexshaft do you prefer?
How do you store your microscope?
Does anyone know if there are quick disconnects for the...
As I am setting up a space in my shop to add some engraving equipment I plan on turning the "temporary"(no comments on how many years temporary is) outfeed table for my tablesaw into a fold away engraving and light metal work area. A top will fold down and still allow the saw to function but I...
